Need to remove engine this weekend from the top with hoist. I have seen posts how to for different models, but was wondering if anyone had directions for the Vue - 5 speed. Thanks!

Its far easier to remove from the bottom/ front, the upper radiator support makes it very difficult take it out the top.
Even if you only lift up the Vue 18" it easily slides out the huge hole in the front that is exposed once you remove the subframe, bumper cover, bumper support and radiator.
I have had the 2.2 drivetrain out in 3 hours and I only work on these vehicles as a hobby

Care to share WHY you're pulling the motor?

Saga started Mothers Day...Vue started to make loud noise from engine while driving. Upon examination we saw no oil!! Husband put in new oil and I drove with no noise, but it was cold out. Husband reallly good about oil changes, etc. so not sure whats up with that. Anyway that afternoon when it got hot out noise back...the timing chain was loose, so we replaced. Number one rod bearing was ground up. Replaced rod bearings, but noise persisted. Checked lifters, but nosie persisted. Pulled oil pan and found number one rod bearing can still slightly be rattled by hand. So, we need to take care of main bearings and thought we should check piston rings. Disconnected number one injector to confirm the problems with number one cyclinder. Any help, thoughts, suggestions ????
Thanks!

Ah yes, the ol' front-end cradle. I'd love a mid 90's Camaro, but dread the thought of having to drop the engine out the bottom. I watched them do it on Horsepower TV and it looked like a nitemare from hell. How does the average Joe lift a Vue 18"?!!!!!!!:dizzy:

I would buy a used engine from ebay or a scrap yard. (~$750)
At a minimum your at the point that you have to take the crankshaft out to be reground and fitted with oversized rod bearings.
www.car-parts.com is a nice search engine for scrap yard parts locally and nation wide.

Floor Jack and jack stands did it for me, Im guessing it was ~18" but it could have been slightly less.
Dropping the engine out the bottom is deceiving, its more like sliding out the front.

That sounds like one heck of a lot of work and money. What year Vue and how much? You're an animal!
I agree that a swap just like yours would be on the plate if I was yanking the engine anyway. As long as the whole front facia is off, I'd go for a Red Line front end too.

It appears you have no problem with labour costs, but like IMKenNY says, it will cost to have the crankshaft reground...and god only knows how much other damage occured running without oil...I'd suggest looking on Ebay for a nice 2.2l, I see them on there all the time for really good prices from reputable places (high sat scores)....
I'd almost bid on this one...just to have a spare...LOL wow, brand new!

Schram seems to quite reputable....

I second replacing the whole engine. I would look for a low mileage engine at a scrap yard. Find a totalled VUE with rear end damage.

I did the conversion over a year ago on my 2003 4cyl VTI, I used a $995 Ebay roll over Vue for parts.
I gained the 3.0 V6, AWD, asian 5 speed auto, power windows, locks, remote keyless entry temp/compass mirror eventually heated leather...etc
It was well worth it since I have two additional spare complete 3.0 drivetrains on pallets for future parts need to keep out two 3.0 V6 Vues going for years!

Thanks for all the replies and helpful info....just went online to LPQ and found a 2005 Vue engine for $580. Going to pick it up tomorrow and hopefully get my car back on the road.
