OK this is gonna sound lame however....
I ordered and received a locking gas cap for the VUE.
How do I go about replacing the old one?
Will the tether thing currently connected somehow fit on the new locking one? I can't see how it does personally.
If it doesn't fit .. .do I just cut the plastic off and unscrew / screw in the new locking cap?
Thanks for whatever insight you can provide!
PS: it came to just under $40 CDN (incl tax) if anyone else is thinking of getting one from the dealer.

I bought one from NAPA for $15.00.Just pop off the rubber strap from the fuel door. You don't need it.

I did the same thing with the gasoline cap on my wife's minivan - after somebody siphoned us dry (20 gallon tank but I don't think it was full at the time). The original gasoline cap had a tether strap that attached to the middle of the cap and to the gasoline tank fuel cap door. I pulled hard and the tether came out of the door. The locking gasoline cap didn't come with a tether or a hole for one as that was where the keyhole is located. As Heavy Mettle wrote, you don't need it. Just remember to put it back on after filling up!
Oh, yeah, here is another tip. Keep one of the two keys for the locking cap somewhere in the car. My wife went on a 300 mile trip and after 250 miles she stopped to fill up with gasoline. Guess where her locking gasoline cap key was? At home on the kitchen counter. Yikes! She had a locksmith pick the lock for $5 and she bought another gasoline cap. I tried to get the key duplicated but everywhere I've gone so far hasn't had the blanks for it.

Why not just put the gas key on the same ring with the car keys.

She usually does keep all the keys together. But before she left she took off the remote keyless entry transmitter and the key (to the doors and ignition), then tossed the rest on the kitchen counter and said, "I don't need to bring with me keys to both Saturns, our house locks, my parents' house locks, your parents' house locks, and my work keys on a 600 mile trip." I figured that she had the RKE, ignition, and gas cap key together. Nope. We both found out the hard way.
Thank heavens it wasn't me that suggested leaving the rest of her keys at home!!! I'd be sleeping in the garage!
