Great photos! Interior certainly looks to be a step up...other than the drink tray rather low, unispired gear shifter and gauges...but the quality looks to be there....
Looks like the door is double sealed except for the sill plate (like that).
Yeah, the mileage is a letdown, as a poster commented....
If I were ever to get one, I'd go with the black bumpers...even though it may not look as good as colour matched bumpers, I wouldn't have to be so paranoid, as I am with Silven. :)

Compared to those on the 2005, it's a step up...literally. :D

unispired gear shifter and gauges...
The shifter on the old VUE is nicer? :?:

The new one has a nicer feel than the non-leather wrapped older ones. The whole shifter unit has a more substantial feel than the one on the older ones. The new shifter's base doesn't look like painted plastic like the 2005+ model's does.
Personally, I was hoping for LED gauges like in the Aura and Outlook. I like those better than the ones in the 2004-07 VUE. I like the look better and they are more legible in dusk light conditions.

Why is everyone saying that???
The Shifter on the old felt like it was going to rip off in your hand.
This one is nice and tight, snicks right through the gears ( Is that even a word:dizzy: )

It's plain (08)...the 06/07 had some class.....as in looked upscale....and it shifts quite alright....if your referring to pre-06, I haven't a clue, never owned one. :)

The 2005 VUEs have a similar shift base. I sat in a 2008 VUE today. You can tell that the base of the 2005-07 shifter is silver painted plastic, whereas that of the 2008 is much nicer. The old VUE also shows black trim on the lever, whereas it's silver on the '08. Some people don't like "plood" and I doubt that its application on the shift lever isn't any better to them on the 06-07 shifter. The 2008 isn't plainer than the old one. The buttons you see on the side also is not the shift release; that's the gear range selector, with the button being in front like that of the old VUE.
I didn't shift the '08 shifter through the shift gate, but the old VUE was not a standout in this regard; it simply "bumps" through the gears but not in a good way. Shift feel will always be noticed every time you shift the lever. Reviewers will look for these things to complain about; Car and Driver did on their review of an Aura in a comparison test.

The 08 leather and leather trimmed seats look flat just as the one I drove, I wish they could have upgraded the quality of the leather as well as a design of the seats so that did not go to mush when you sit in them.

it's started quite a debate;)

It's spawned a few questions too!

How tall was the dude in the pinstriped pants? Not that I plan on sitting in the back seat.

What's the interior dimensions of that storage drawer/tray under the front seat? Can it hold a notebook PC with a 15" screen?

Was that a 12v power socket I saw on the right side of the rear cargo area? Nice to see that return. How many more of those sockets are there? I did note the one just below the front of the armrest.

That was me:) and I'm 5'11
yes there is a socket in the rear cargo area.
Their are three sockets altogether, One up front, One in the 2nd row and one in the back.

About the storage area under the seat, I have a Laptop with a 15.4 Screen. I'll try it out some time.

The Vue is looking better each time I see it. The wood trim (especially the darker of the two) would look great in the Aura. The underseat drawer is a great idea, plus I couldn't help notice the rear seat center armrest, attractive-looking front seat center armrest and nice cupholders. All would be welcome in the Aura.

I don't have a plood shifter, I have the brushed aluminum one...:D
Your probably right the 08 shifts better (in the upscale version, but the i4 uses a similar, if not the same the transmission), but for looks, I prefer my 06 shifter 'look'.
Very masculine looking VUE interior....those drink holders so low look to be a pain to clean should someone make a mess...note, the 06/07 has rubber inserts - why didn't they keep them? :hmm:
The storage bin looks like it can finally take a purse, whereas the 06/07, it was a pain to remove the drink holders to do so....I like the underseat storage...I like all storage!

Really Nice! A much-needed improvement over the original VUE. Can't wait to see one in person (and hopefully start to sell them this fall!!)

19 MPG city for a four cylinder??? That's pretty weak. I get over 20MPG city with my v6 AWD with the fat redline tires. The interior is nicer, no doubt, but sorry, it looks like a Hyundai, it's assembled in Mexico, not the US, and is overall smaller and heavier. I can't say I'd recommend it to anyone unless they actually liked the pillbug exterior. It's not awful by any means, but I don't think it's going to be a CR-V or Rav4 killer.

The previous I4 models weren't much better when you compare the revised EPA figures. The 2005-07 I4 FWD automatics were rated at 22 city and with the revised EPA ratings are about 20 city, IIRC.
You beat even the old EPA ratings. Different driving styles = different mpg. Like they say, YMMV.

The interior is nicer, no doubt, but sorry, it looks like a Hyundai,
Is that necessarily a negative thing?

The CR-V doesn't offer a V6 so the VUE already has an advantage over it.
The RAV4 has the spare tire hanging on the back, which is really a love-it-or-hate-it thing. The RAV4 is probably the biggest competition for the new VUE.

Great photos of the car. Thanks.

You have to work on your "spokesmodel" though. Your legs will never compete with the sweetheart who fronts for the Mercury Mariner. ;)

I don't see how the new Vue could have more rear leg room, it definatley looks smaller than the previous Vue. That picture was rigged.

Depends on packaging.

You needed the rear seat legroom in the old VUE because the seat was so low, adults had to splay your legs in that space. The new VUE's back seat is higher off the ground and as such it's much better.

The Rear seat is just the right hight, your legs aren't splayed at all

Likeneverbefore:, I have a question to ask about the Vue. I have noticed in the thread that is linked from GMInsidenews that there is a complaint about there being no "DIC" in the 2008 Vue. I am assuming that this means "driver information system. The 2008 Saturn online order and reference guide states the "08" Vue having a driver information center incl compass & outside temp display. It also mentions the tire pressure monitor system being also displayed in the information center. And if the "08" Vue doesn't have these displays how are they being handled and since there is no water temp gage I was assuming that there is something in the display center that addressed this, could you clear this up for me?

I just went out and looked at an 08', The Outside temp display was there,
I will find out tomorrow about the TMPS and the water temp gauge.

Not only how tall but how uneven is he. His right pant leg has no cuff but the left one does. :dizzy: Was this dealership in West Virginia? :?:

They where a little long and it was 90 out so I "fixed" them.

Been there, done that! The interior certainly looks much nicer than anything they've put out thus far. It is nice to see them do it correctly the first try rather than to do what they seem to always do. Hopefully the center console and such won't be made from hollow, hard plastics...

The console is made from very nice plastic and it is nice and well put together,
the old VUE felt like you could rip the console out.

For sure. The Aura is a great car and Saturn got it mostly correct except for the door panels and that rear portion of the center console. The latter is so flimsy it could be a direct pull from a mid-80s Hyundai. Sad note is that Saturn knew they were putting this to market knowing exactly what some of the consumers and all the car rags would say.

The interior of the first gen of the outgoing VUE was a prime example of how to not cut corners. This would be a prime reason a CRV-SE is in my garage.

Awesome pics! Thanks for sharing!

The differences between the 07 and the 08 are amazing! I LOVE the armrest. Wish my RL had that...

And nice Volvo BTW...a lady I work with has two in her family. An '86 with something like 300k and a '91 with almost 200k.

It might seem weak but it's still 3 mpg better (EPA numbers) than both 6 cylinders.

Ford did a consumer survey of SUV buyers and 90% of the buyers made their purchase decision based on the interiors. Saturn did a good job on the 2008 VUE's interior. I like 90% of the changes, improvements.

A few small comments. 1) I like the upholstered pocket on the rear of the current VUE better than the plastic one with the net. 2) They should have kept the vertical interior door pull handles. 3) The glove box release should have been located offset for easier driver access.

IMO the current trend of vehicle design will be who can build the best interiors. As long as they keep the interiors functional, I'm all for it.
