Saturn of Ventura Workers Heartbroken Brand May End

Stephanie Hoops from Ventura County Star: It was the concept that hooked Jeanette Byrne when she began working with Saturn 16 years ago. "I'm building an American-made car for the American middle class," she said, recalling the feeling. "They used to say we drank the Saturn Kool-Aid — and we did. It was for us." Byrne, who today handles accounts receivable and payable at Saturn of Ventura, was sent twice in the early years to the Saturn assembly plant in Spring Hill, Tenn. She was impressed with the way things were being done by the company, from the environmentally friendly plant to the open communication among employees. But what really appealed to her was that customers came first. On Friday, Byrne choked up describing the close relationships that have developed over the years between customers and employees at Saturn of Ventura, the only Saturn dealership in Ventura County.

The Last Saturn Sale

Automotive News reports that General Motors is preparing what will likely be one last Saturn advertising campaign in an effort to sell the brand's last remaining 9,400 2008 and 2009 models. Susan Docherty, GM's newly appointed vice president of U.S. sales, told the trade publication that "starting next week, we'll have a print campaign which features that product. In the next 90 days, we'll have cleaned up that inventory. I'm not worried about it at all."
