Saturn retailers in the Detroit area will dedicate the first of five Habitat for Humanity Homes built by the Saturn Hands on Homes project on December 12th. To help further celebrate the occasion, Saturn retailers are collecting donations of new, unused household items for the families moving into these and other Habitat for Humanity homes.

Donated items can include everyday household goods that a new homeowner needs, such as cookware, dishes and other eating utensils, light bulbs, paper products and cleaning supplies. Donations may be dropped off at Detroit-area Saturn retailers no later than December 11th. A list of Saturn retailer locations can be found at SaturnHandsOnHomes.com. The items will be delivered to Habitat for Humanity Detroit at next Friday's home dedication ceremony in the Morning Side Community on Detroit's east side.

"Giving back to the community has always been a core value of the Saturn brand and its retailers," said Carl Galeana, owner of Saturn of Warren and Saturn of Lakeside. "Even in these challenging and trying times for the automotive industry, we continue to stand by our commitment to our neighbors."

The Saturn Hands on Home project is collaboration between General Motors' Saturn Division, Saturn retailers, Habitat for Humanity Detroit and Jon Bon Jovi's Philadelphia Soul Foundation. Construction began last summer on the five homes in Detroit. Since then, hundreds of volunteers – including many Saturn team members and owners – have donated their labor to help build safe, affordable housing for families in need.
