I bought an extra remote keyless entry transmitter for my 2004 VUE by locating one on eBay that had the same GM part number and FCC ID number on the back as mine. This was not hard because other GM vehicles used the same unit. It was less than $20 including a battery and shipping. The unit was a little dirty so I took it apart and cleaned the two shell halves plus the rubber buttons with hand dishwashing soap and an old toothbrush.
Later while getting new keys cut at the Saturn dealership, they reprogrammed my VUE to accept all the remote keyless entry transmitters including the new one for me at no cost (except for the cost for the keys).
You can do the same. Look for a similar remote keyless entry transmitter to yours on eBay that is reasonably priced including the shipping, and after it arrives have your dealer do 5 minutes of programming magic for you!
