We have a 1995 Saturn SL2, 4 door that we are looking to sell. If you know Saturns and how to fix them, this car may just be a steal for you. It does start and run, and can be driven for very short distances, but has some mechanical trouble that will need to be fixed, which is why I have listed it as being in poor condition.
Current odometer mileage: 121093.
Next oil change due: 122867
Last smog: 8/18/06 - CA: passed
CA title because this is a temporary move to PA.
One year ago our mechanic in San Diego, CA put in a used engine for us that had 44,000 miles on it. We now live in Telford, PA, but did NOT drive the car across the country; we had it on a trailer hitch. Since arriving here, the car has had some new mechanical problems related to the engine. We just don't know the mechanics here, and/or they just don't know Saturns!
Only one has given us a tentative diagnosis - and that was to open the engine up to identify the exact problem, but again, that would require more $$$ for the diagnosis alone. He suspected timing chain/valves but couldn't be sure until he opened it up.
The symptoms/problems were/are: progressively worse performance with noise/knocking coming from the top side of the engine (this is when we stopped driving it). It now stalls when you put it in 1st if you don't give it enough gas. We have stored it in the garage since the spring when the problems occurred, and when starting it recently to move it outside, no knocking was heard so it isn't constant, but there was an initial burst of white smoke from the back that quickly dissipated. The A/C and heat both work fine.
We already have 2 other cars, and don't have the means to fix this one again a year after spending about $1800 for the used engine.
It is a clean car inside and out - with the exception of some surface scratches on the front end. We have receipts from previous work done to the car including the engine replacement and a new catalytic converter. The pictures represent the car very well, and it only has a couple additional minor cosmetic flaws not shown. I can also provide bigger pictures of what is shown: for some reason they all shrunk after uploading and even the supersize option is not very big. The paint job is rather striking - the silver has a reddish/purple undertone.
We're including the Sony detachable CD player/stereo & front speakers along with the Sirius car dock for a Sirius sportster (not included).
