Pontiac, Suzuki to Get Vue-based SUVs

Automtoive News reports that Pontiac plans to build a vehicle based on the Vue's Theta architecture beginning in the 2006 model year. The Pontiac sport wagon would help fill capacity in the CAMI Automotive plant in Ingersoll, Ontario where the new Chevrolet Equinox is built. "We still have another half of a plant that is sitting idle," Kevin Brooke, chairman of Canadian Auto Workers Local 88 at CAMI said. The CAW has reportedly not been told of any plans to build more vehicles at the plant.

CAMI Automotive is a joint venture between GM and Suzuki. Previously, the CAMI plant built the Chevy Tracker and Suzuki Vitara SUVs, along with the Chevrolet Metro and Suzuki Swift subcompacts. Incidentally, Suzuki is also expected to build another Theta-based SUV alongside the Equinox and unnamed Pontiac starting in 2007.
