NYIAS Recap: 2008 Vue Red Line

If you live in the New York metropolitan area, I strongly encourage you to hop into your Saturn and drive over to the Jacob Javits Convention Center this week. On display, you'll find the completely revitalized Saturn lineup. The oldest model on hand is the Saturn Sky roadster. I just got back from my trip to NYC last week, and I'm in the process of formating and uploading all of my photos. Due to the sheer number of pictures, I'll be uploading a few each night this week.

First up: 67 photos of the 2008 Saturn Vue Red Line. If you haven't already heard, the Vue is all-new for '08. The new model sheds its rather boxy, polymer-clad shell for a more rounded, steel body. The look is more decidedly more international and could easily fit in on the streets of Europe and Asia. That's a good thing though, because variations of the Vue will be sold under different General Motors brand names throughout the world. In Red Line trim, the Vue features a meaner, more aggressive stance complete with a ground effects package and enlarged lower grill built into the front facia.

The Vue was actually one of the bigger surprises for me at the show. I had expected the new model to feel a lot smaller inside, given its more rounded proportions, but I didn't come away with that impression. The interior felt just as roomy as our 2005 Vue Red Line. The new Vue does lose a few cubic feet of storage space due to the sharply raked rear hatch, but depending on the kind of cargo you frequently carry, you probably won't notice the loss of much usable space. The floor space behind the rear seats actually seemed deeper than in the 2002-07 Vues. I'll have to pull the dimensions for each model to compare the two side-by-side to see for sure, but I'll bet they're close. Don't let the sleek exterior fool you.

Photos of the new Green Line hybrid Vue and XR model will be posted later this week. But bear in mind, pictures don't do this vehicle justice. Make sure you get a good look at the new Vue in person. Look for it at your local retail facility next month.
