GM Recalling 42k Saturn Vues

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that General Motors is recalling 42,408 model year 2008-09 Saturn Vues with faulty hydraulic power steering systems. Reuters reports that the vehicles impacted by the recall are equipped with equipped with V6 engines. Some of those Vues may have a condition in which the nut securing the power steering line to the power steering pump may loosen. If this were to occur, there may be a power steering fluid lead. The fluid could contact hot exhaust components resulting in a possible engine compartment fire.

The recall is expected to begin on or about September 26, 2008. Retailers will inspect the nut securing the power steering line to the power steering pump. If there are no signs of a fluid leak, reatilers will tighten the nut. If a fluid leak is present, your retailer will tighten the nut and check the fluid level.

"GM said there were four reports of minor fires in the engine compartment due to fluid coming in contact with the exhaust system," wrote Reuters, "but no reports of accidents or injuries." Owners can contact Saturn at 1-800-972-8876 with any questions.
