Brian Harper from Canada's National Post reviewed the 2008 Saturn Vue Green Line appreciated the hybrid's fuel economy, but wished the sport-utility had a little more power. The 2.4-liter VVT 172 hp Ecotec four-cylinder "is not exactly bulging with muscle," he wrote, "but it's smooth and it will get the Vue to speed."

Normally, I'm not a fan of front-wheel-drive sport-utility vehicles. Without the benefit of four-wheel-drive traction, front-drive SUVs are little more than taller, squarer wagons. I was willing to make an exception for the Saturn Vue Green Line for several reasons, the most notable being that it seldom snows in Canada during the summer. Then there's the fact that I put to good use the compact ute's generous cargo room, ferrying detritus from my garage to the regional dump and picking up several large boxes containing the results of my wife's most recent spending spree. Most importantly, however, was that with the ever-escalating price of gasoline, I was able to mitigate some of the pain through the Green Line's "mild" hybrid powertrain.

Associated Press: A $14 billion emergency bailout for U.S. automakers collapsed in the Senate Thursday night after the United Auto Workers refused to accede to Republican demands for swift wage cuts. The collapse came after bipartisan talks on the auto rescue broke down over GOP demands that the UAW union agree to steep wage cuts by 2009 to bring their pay into line with Japanese carmakers.
