2009 Saturn Highlights

Saturn posted a brief overview on its ImSaturn website last week previewing the "significant" changes for '09. Here are a few highlights we can look forward to seeing in the coming weeks and months.

  • Aura's 2.4L 4-cylinder will be mated to a new 6-speed automatic that helps the car deliver 33 mpg on the highway.
  • Outlook gets a more powerful 3.6 liter V6 engine with direct injection. The new engine boosts the horsepower rating to 288 for XR (up 13 hp) and 281 for XE (up 11 hp).
  • Saturn is "on track to begin production of the Vue 2 Mode hybrid toward the end of this year and it will begin arriving at retailers in early 2009." Its expected to be "the most fuel efficient V6 SUV on the market" without compromising performance or utility.
  • Look for the 2009 Sky to be "available with special appearance packages that include new colors, stripping, and wheels."
  • "Not much changes on Astra, as it was just introduced," says Saturn. "We are changing the clock to a 12-hour format and adding an available advanced audio package for XE models."
  • OnStar Bluetooth "hands-free" phone technology will be standard or offered as an option on the Sky, Outlook, Aura and Vue.
  • "A new back-up camera will be offered on Outlook and Vue that has the view screen integrated into the rearview mirror. That means it can be ordered without having to get navigation system."

2008 Saturn Astra Review

The Car Connection posted a different kind of review, mixing comments from different major auto magazines, websites, and blogs with their own. Overall, they liked the Astra's styling, standard and optional features, safety, comfort, quality, and performance. "The 2008 Saturn Astra is no speed demon," wrote the site, "but the taut suspension makes whipping the car through turns a true joy."
