AMP Holding Inc, a company engaged in the all-electric, emission-free conversion of General Motors vehicles, announced today that their AMP electric car has advanced to the finals of the Progressive Insurance Automotive X Prize worldwide competition after passing the most recent "knockout" qualifying stage.

Unprecedented discounts on the last remaining Saturns present an enticing case to anyone in the market for a new car, especially if you're a Saturn owner. Al Clapsaddle, senior sales consultant at Saturn/West in Ohio, sent me an intriguing e-mail the other day detailing the laundry list of incentives available until November 30 — some of which are over and above those that were advertised nationally at the beginning of the month.

Automotive News reports that General Motors is preparing what will likely be one last Saturn advertising campaign in an effort to sell the brand's last remaining 9,400 2008 and 2009 models. Susan Docherty, GM's newly appointed vice president of U.S. sales, told the trade publication that "starting next week, we'll have a print campaign which features that product. In the next 90 days, we'll have cleaned up that inventory. I'm not worried about it at all."

For this week's installment of Flashback Friday, we only have to look back a little more than three months to this past spring. The date was Wednesday, May 20th, 2009 to be exact. On that day, GM's Boxwood Assembly Plant in Wilmington, DE built the last Saturn Sky.

From the Detroit Free Press: French automaker Peugeot - frequently mentioned as a possible supplier of future Saturn cars - is to unveil the sleek RCZ coupe at the Frankfurt Auto Show next month. Very reminiscent of the Audi TT, the four-seat RCZ should go on sale in Europe next year.

Brendan Moran from GM High-Tech Performance: Thankfully the engineers at GM did their homework before adding boost to the Ecotec mill. Instead of simply adapting the 2.4L mill in the naturally aspirated base model, the Red Line features the LNF Ecotec 2.0t.

Jerry Flint from Forbes: Saturn probably had the latest and best lineup of any GM brand: two well-done SUVs, the Outlook and the Vue, the handsome Aura sedan, a sister of the Chevy Malibu, the European built-small Astra car, and even a two-seat sports car, the Sky. But sales went nowhere. GM had said it will kill the brand, but now hopes to sell the name to Roger Penske.

Andrew Eder from the Delaware News Journal: Today marks the last day of production at General Motors' Boxwood Road assembly plant. The 62-year-old factory near Newport was a victim of the automaker's restructuring that has claimed tens of thousands of jobs and will close or idle 14 plants in the next three years.
