Video: Michigan Company Converts a '95 Saturn SL1 into an Electric Car

WILX News Channel 10 reports in this video segment about a Michigan company that is going into business converting used economy cars into electric vehicles. A gold Saturn was shown in the linked clip and others were flashed on the screen as future upcoming conversions. "This model will run anywhere from $15,000 to $20,000," said the station, "but it can be cheaper if you bring in your own car."

They call it a glorified golf cart. "The motor runs off 18 batteries." An electric car that could give your wallet a jolt. "This is a huge, huge money saver for people." Tom Nicholls has partnered with a manufacturing company to create an all-electric car that costs just 3 cents a mile to run. Compare that to nearly 20 cents a mile with gas and you've got some extra cash. So far, mechanics have put 500 man hours into converting a 1995 Saturn into an all electric ride. They've already bought a few more older cars, hoping interest will peak. The car uses no gas, emits no pollution, and it's pretty quiet.

With 2009 just right around the corner, I came across this "family" photo of Saturn's 2008 models. From left-to-right, you can see the '08 Saturn Outlook, Astra 3-door, Aura, Sky, Astra 5-door, and Vue. The models are pictured in front of the brand's recently approved retail facade.
