Outlook Crossover Rates Best in Consumer Reports' Lowest Cost of Ownership Study

In its 2008 auto show issue, Consumer Reports is introducing a new way to compare vehicles: cost of ownership. "In addition to shopping for a good deal," CR writes on its website, "car buyers should also consider how much a model will cost them to own. That includes depreciation, fuel costs, interest, insurance, sales tax, and maintenance and repair costs."

The Outlook is our third Saturn and it takes the place of our first: a 2002 L300 midsize sedan that we bought in the fall of '01 to replace my wife's Mazda 626 that she had been driving since college.
