GM Recalling 2008-2010 Saturn Outlooks

2008-2010 Saturn Outlook Recalled

General Motors announced today it is recalling 1.18 million of its Lambda-based large crossover sport-utility vehicles, including: Saturn Outlooks from the 2008-2010 model years, Buick Enclaves and GMC Acadias from the 2008-2013 model years, and Chevrolet Traverses from the 2009-2013 model years.

The vehicles are equipped with a Service Air Bag warning light in the driver information center. Ignoring the Service Air Bag warning light will eventually result in the non-deployment of the side impact restraints, which include driver and passenger seat-mounted side air bags, front center air bag (if equipped), and the seat belt pretensioners.

To repair the condition, dealers will remove the driver and passenger side air bag wiring harness connectors and splice and solder the wires together.

General Motors presented a restructuring plan to Congress earlier this afternoon with hopes of receiving $12 billion in term loans that it believes will help ensure liquidity through the end of 2009. As part of the plan, General Motors revealed that it intends to focus on its "core brands" - Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC, and Buick. Pontiac will become a "specialty" brand that sells niche vehicles. Saturn, Saab, and Hummer will be closed or sold.
