Certain 2007-08 Outlooks Impacted by Second Recall

This has been a roller coaster week of sorts for the Saturn Outlook.  First, the crossover utility was called a "Top Safety Pick" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.  But now we have news that the Outlook will be part of a second recall campaign by General Motors.

Yesterday, SaturnFans.com reported about a recall to replace faulty windshield wipers on some Saturn Outlook, GMC Acadia, and Buick Enclave models. Today we get word from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about a larger recall involving 857,735 GM vehicles that are equipped with company's heated windshield washing systems.  Some 2007-08 Saturn Outlook models are optionally equipped with that particular system.  In addition to the Outlook, GM is also recalling the following vehicles for the same issue:

  • Model year 2006-08 Buick Lucerne, Cadillac DTS, Hummer H2
  • Model year 2007-08 Cadillac Escalade (including ESV and EXT models); Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe; GMC Acadia, Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL
  • Model year 2008 Buick Enclave

Each of these vehicles, when equipped with the aforementioned heated wiper washer fluid system, is impacted by the announcement. A short circuit on the printed circuit board of the washer fluid heater may overheat the control-circuit ground wire. As a result, this may cause other electrical features to malfunction, create an odor, or cause smoke increasing the risk of fire.

Retailers will install a wire harness with an in-line fuse free of charge.  GM and Saturn have not yet provide the NHTSA with an owner notification schedule. Owners may contact Saturn at 1-800-972-8876. Reference GM recall #08048 and NHTSA recall #08V441000.

What's a Good Price for 2009 Saturn Aura?

2009 Saturn Aura XR

I just saw some used 2009 Saturn Auras with more than 36,000 miles on them for sale at Hertz Rental for $11-12k. Of course, these cars have been driven beyond the basic General Motors 36k mile warranty. My question is, are these vehicles still good deals if I buy an extended warranty?
