In a move that may indicate Saturn has concerns that its three-letter naming convention won't be successful in the ultra-competitive midsize market, SaturnFans.com has learned that the company may be looking into its past for inspiration in naming its upcoming midsize sport wagon. It has been known for quite some time that Saturn will drop the L-Series moniker when the car is redesigned in 2006.

Saturn May Share Wilmington Plant With Buick

Buick may join Saturn, Saab, Chevrolet, and Pontiac in building a midsize car based on General Motors' new midsize Epsilon platform. It would be the fourteenth GM model to use the global Epsilon architecture. If the car is approved for production, it may be built alongside Saturn's next generation midsize vehicle in Wilmington, Delaware beginning in 2007.

Future Models Will Give Saturn a 'Boost'

Saturn says it expects about a 10% increase in U.S. sales next year from the total expected for 2002, thanks to an updated and expanded lineup. Jill Lajdziak, vice president of Saturn Sales, Service, and Marketing, told reporters at a media preview for the new Ion line of small cars that Saturn is on track to set a new sales record this year, with sales of between 285,000 and 300,000 vehicles.
