VTi Role Reduced in Saturns for 2005

Tags:

If recent rumors prove to be true, Saturn will be significantly reducing the number of VTi CVT transmissions it plans to sell in 2005 by eliminating the availability of the transmission in its Ion lineup and by offering the transmission in one model of the Vue. Sources tell SaturnFans.com that the company plans to replace the VTi transmission currently installed in its Ion quad coupe and Vue 4-clyinder front-wheel-drive models with a GM Hydra-Matic 4-speed automatic transmission. The 4-speed automatic will also replace the Ion sedan's available 5-speed automatic transmission. SaturnFans is told that the change will help Saturn boast improved fuel economy over the existing models. In addition, Saturns equipped with the 4-speed automatic transmission will also be flat-towable.

The innovative VTi will still be transmission the only available transmission in all-wheel-drive 4-cylinder Vues next year. Click here for more rumored changes coming to Saturn's 2005 models.
