Turbocharged Ion QC Powered by SAAB Ecotec


AutoWeek reports that Saturn's upcoming Ion 'tuner coupe' will hit the streets in the beginning of 2004. The magazine said that the car will use the "the same Ecotec 2.0-liter turbocharged four found in Saab's 9-3, which means we'll be driving a Saturn with as much as 210 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque at 2300 rpm." Even though Saturn has won praise from the media for the Ion's ride and handling characteristics, Saturn is going to tweak the Ion's suspension for a more aggressive ride. Like Cadillac's critically acclaimed CTS, Saturn will test and tune the car at the Nurburgring in Germany.

No official name or designation has been given to the new model. The so-called tuner coupe is the first in a series of high performance vehicles Saturn is developing that will eventually include L-Series and Vue models.
