On the Auction Block: 2003 Saturn Ion QC/T Concept

This 2003 Saturn Ion QC/T concept was featured at the 2002 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. The modified Ion is powered by a 2.2 liter turbo engine with a 5-speed manual transmission, 4-wheel disc brakes, and 235/40ZR18 tires on 7-spoke Motegi aluminum wheels. Also features a custom fiberglass hood and scoop, custom deck lid spoiler, custom two tone black and silver paint, dark tint windows and a custom Rockford Fosgate audio system. The concept was built by ASC in conjunction with Saturn.

According to the brochure originally created for the vehicle:

ASC designed and produced a functional composite sport performance hood, unique front and rear chin spoilers, rocker panels, spoiler stanchions, and painted the roof black. Saturn provided the carbon fiber roof rails. For added power, a Twistech Ecotec turbo kit was installed, and for handling performance, 18" Motegi Racing wheels were fitted with Bridgeston Potenza RE 730 tires, and SSBC 4-wheel disc brakes were added.

AMP Taking Orders for Electric Sky Conversions

After one year development, an Ohio company is now taking orders to convert a gasoline-powered Saturn Skys to 100% electric power. The company, Advanced Mechanical Products (AMP), is replacing the combustion drivetrain with electric motors, safe lithium batteries, and proprietary control software. "The prototype is in the final stage, and production will take place later this year, with deliveries beginning in 2009," said Jack Kuntz, AMP CEO.
