Saturn "Rethink MPG" Ad Airs During the Olympics

General Motors has been a big sponsor of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games on NBC. There have been number of different GM ads being shown every night, including the critically-acclaimed 'Beautiful Blue' television spot, but tonight the company aired the 2009 version of Saturn's 'Rethink MPG' commercial just after the Men's 100m dash final.

Aura XR-4 Kicks Luxury Down a Notch

Earlier this week, Glen Woodcook from AutoNet.ca profiled the 2009 Saturn Aura XR 4-cylinder. Woodcook liked the Aura's fuel economy, stylish exterior, and refined interior. "The Aura is a nicely thought out sedan," he wrote, "fully deserving of its victory in the 2007 North American Car of the Year competition."

Saturn Sales Decline in July Inline with Industry; Aura, Sky, Astra Sales Increased Last Month

Saturn sales were down 13.6% in July, despite higher sales of the brand's newly revitalized and fuel-efficient car lineup. The jump in sales by the Astra, Sky, and Aura, though, wasn't enough to offset the sales gap left by the discontinued Ion sedan and quad coupe. As a result, Saturn's car sales fell 12.7% last month compared to July 2007.

Details Emerge About the 2nd-Generation GM Mild Hybrid System

Edmunds.com's Green Car Advisor reports that GM "has developed a second-generation mild hybrid system that for the first time takes advantage of powerful, lightweight lithium ion batteries to provide more power and a slight increase in fuel economy." The new system will reportedly be available in 2010 Saturns "with a lot of growth potential" across GM's worldwide product line, according to Stephan Poulos, GM's global chief engineer for hybrid systems.
