Saturn Confirms 'Green Line' Hybrid Models

Saturn is preparing a new line of hybrid vehicles to be sold next year under the 'Green Line' moniker. The first two Green Line models will be available next year; other hybrid Saturn models will reportedly be offered in later years. "Environmental friendliness has been a core value of Saturn, and will be an important part of its future," Automotive News reports Saturn General Manager Jill Lajdziak as saying Tuesday at the Management Briefing Seminars in Traverse City, Michigan. Lajdziak revealed at the conference that the first Green Line model will be based on the Vue sport-utility. She did not indicate what the second model would be, however sources tell that an Aura Green Line will be offered in late 2006.

The 2007 Vue Green Line, available in mid-2006, will yield "roughly a 10% savings in fuel economy compared with a conventional gasoline engine," according to the Detroit Free Press. The belt alternator system (BAS) will save fuel by automatically shutting down the engine when the vehicle decelerates and stops.
