Earlier this month, Insure.com compiled a list of 300 vehicles and their associated insurance premiums. On the list of the 20 least expensive cars to insure was the Saturn Vue, ranking ninth. For those of you who don't own a Vue, you'll be happy to know that most Saturn models did well in their categories. The only exceptions were Saturn's hybrid models, which due to their electrified powertrains, are more expensive to replace in the event of a collision. Despite these higher premiums, Saturn hybrids still managed to rank in the middle of their respective classes.

Smallsize SUVs (25 vehicles in category)

• Saturn Vue: ranked 2nd least expensive at $911

• Saturn Vue Hybrid: ranked 14th least expensive at $1005

Largesize SUVs (40 vehicles in category)

• Saturn Outlook: ranked 2nd least expensive at $1040

Midsize Cars (40 vehicles in category)

• Saturn Aura: ranked 4th least expensive at $974

• Saturn Aura Hybrid: ranked 18th least expensive at $1078

Sports Cars (44 vehicles in category)

• Saturn Sky: ranked 9th least expensive at $1213

The prices were derived by averaging 12 premium quotes from three companies across four zip codes. They are based on a 40 year old single man with the following characteristics:

• Spotless driving record

• 12 mile commute to work
• Owns his own car
• Policy limits of 100/300/50 ($100,000 for injury liability for one person, $300,000 for all injuries and $50,000 for property damage in an accident)
• $500 deductible on collision and comprehensive.
• Liability and uninsured motorist limits
• Drives 15,000 miles annually
• Has had a driver's license since he was 16 years old
• Has a bachelor's degree
