He compared the dismal sales of the critically acclaimed Saturn Aura, which was named North American Car of the Year, to the sales success of the Chevrolet Malibu, also a Car of the Year winner. The difference: GM spent more than $100 million to advertise the Malibu, 10 times what it spent on the Aura, Lutz said. "That won't happen again," he said. "We will have the money we need to tell the story." The company's new board of directors is on board, too. Lutz said board members, who recently met and drove the company's vehicles, were surprised by the caliber of the cars and trucks and instructed the management to do a better job getting the word out.
