Opel Insignia Hatchback Spied During Testing

While the Insignia sedan will be built in the U.S. and sold in North America as the Saturn Aura, industry analysts don't expect this model to make its way onto our shores, but that doesn't mean it won't happen.

Late last month Leftlane News published spy photos of the next-generation Buick LaCrosse, which will be built on the same GM global midsize architecture as the 2010 Saturn Aura. What made the camouflaged photos unique was not necessarily the photos themselves, but the powertrain reportedly being tested under the hood of the car: the Saturn Sky Red Line's 260hp 2.0L turbocharged I4.
Aura Concept Demonstrates GM's Fuel Saving HCCI Engine Technology
General Motors recently demonstrated its progress on developing a future advanced engine technology for consumers that squeezes more miles per gallon of gas and reduces emissions. GM engineers have brought the advanced combustion technology from the laboratory to the test track and, now, to the highway in a driveable concept vehicle - a Saturn Aura equipped with homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI).

Workers at General Motors' Fairfax plant where the Saturn Aura and Chevrolet Malibu went on strike this morning because of a breakdown in discussions about local plant issues. "We are obviously disappointed that UAW Local 31 took strike action at Fairfax Assembly," says Dan Flores, a spokesman for GM told USA Today.

Advertising Age reports that Saturn plans to advertise at movie theaters this summer, promoting its Vue sport-utility and Aura midsize sedan. "What's the big draw of the big screen?" asks AdAge. "A captive younger audience."

While Saturn's overall sales were down 15.5% to 16,888 units last month, sales of the brand's Aura midsize sedan and Vue sport-utility saw healthy increases from a year-over-year perspective.

Plant Talks Continue Past Strike Deadline
The Kansas City Star reports that workers at General Motors' Fairfax Assembly Plant at agreed to work past a previously set Friday afternoon strike deadline. "The UAW has agreed to give a 12-hour notice prior to any strike action," Ben Ippolito, the GM Fairfax plant spokesman told the paper. "GM remains committed to bargaining in good faith and reaching an agreement as soon as possible."
