Automotive News: European Strategy Seemed Sound

David Sedgwick from Automotive News: I was a believer. I really thought Saturn could succeed - if only General Motors would Europeanize the brand. I saw the light - or so I thought - in 2004 during a GM press trip at a swanky resort in Fayence, a town near the French Riviera. I offered Bob Lutz some free advice: Borrow Opel's cars for the U.S. market.

Bob Lutz to Retire at the End of 2009

Robert A. Lutz, GM Vice Chairman – Global Product Development, will transition to a new role effective April 1, 2009 as Vice Chairman and Senior Advisor. Lutz, 77, will provide strategic input into GM's global design and key product initiatives until his retirement at the end of 2009. He will continue to report to Wagoner.

Spied: 2010 Opel Astra Spotted Sans Clothing

Ray Wert from Jalopnik: The next-generation 2010 Opel Astra, otherwise known as the 2010 Vauxhall Astra and sometimes going by the name 2011 Saturn Astra (if Saturn survives), was spotted completely undisguised in Germany outside GM's testing facilities. The revised Astra is scheduled to go on sale at the end of this year and although a styling prototype, the vehicle caught in the camera viewfinder clearly shows off the Astra's new lines on the outside.

Could Saturn be Integrated into Buick-Pontiac-GMC?

From All Cars All the Time: If GM were to pair Saturn with BPG, it is my belief that Saturn would aim for smaller vehicles. Corsa, Meriva, and Astra are names that come to mind when looking over Opel's lineup. Now you might argue that the Astra hasn't done very well here in the States, however I maintain that it isn't so much the car's fault as it was a hurried, low cost effort to bring it here and a scant marketing budget once the car arrived.

No 2009 Astra for U.S. Customers, 2010 Model Due Later this Year with New Options

If you've been on the lookout for a 2009 Saturn Astra, you can stop looking (that is unless you live in Canada, where Saturn is reportedly selling them). Due to the large number of 2008 Astras still in stock - about 5,500 units - Saturn is canceling plans to build a '09 model for the U.S. market.

GM Has Allocated Funding for 2012-13 Saturn Vehicles

Jamie LaReau from Automotive News: General Motors leaders told Saturn dealers today that funding has been allocated to build Saturn vehicles through 2012 and in some cases 2013. But they stopped short of saying Saturn would get new products and won't be killed. "We are still working through many options," but Saturn is "not going away in 30 days," said Todd Ingersoll, a Saturn dealer on the Franchise Operations Team who attended a Saturn dealer meeting at the National Automobile Dealers Association convention in New Orleans.

Astra-nomical: Road Tripping in New Brunswick with a Saturn Astra

Jamie Hunter from Driven: I couldn't have asked for a better car to experience a New Brunswick road trip. The vehicle's modern looks kept us cool in the city; its comfortable interior and smooth ride had us content on the open road; and it enabled us to check out some of eastern Canada's famous landmarks and attractions.

GM Canada: Saturn Runs Rings Around Competition

Already offering the industry's freshest new vehicle line-up, Saturn is upping the ante yet again for 2009 with the planned addition of a third hybrid model and by offering its line-up of fuel efficient cars and crossovers at a price point designed to impress, all backed by Saturn's leading customer service and retail experience.

Saturn Sales Down in December, Year-Over-Year

The 2008 calendar year was a down year for Saturn, General Motors, and the auto industry as a whole. However, not all new was bad for Saturn. There were two significant bright spots: sales of Saturn's midsize Aura sedan and Vue compact sport-utility were virtually flat year-over-year.

Saturn Astra Lands on Another Top 10 List

Jill Ciminillo, Autos Editor for the Chicago Sun Times: Cashing in on the current Euro styling trend, GM brought it's Opel Astra to the U.S. under the guise of the Saturn Astra. Not much changed between the two models except the badging, which makes the Astra a bit of a departure from the run-of-the-mill GM lineup... and I liked it. The Astra is compact, affordable, functional and fuel efficient.

The Detroit News published an article yesterday about GM's new, more polished and sophisticated "jet-set style" vehicle interiors. While the article provided some interesting insight into the vision behind GM's quest to make its cars and trucks a benchmark in the industry, it was the last paragraph of the article that was most intriguing.
