Automotive News: Next-Generation Saturn Astra to be Built in Mexico

Next-Generation Saturn Astra?

Earlier this month, Automotive News reported that production of the next Saturn Astra will move from Antwerp, Belgium to San Luis Potosi, Mexico when it arrives for the 2011 model year. "General Motors hopes to dodge the weak dollar that inflated the price of the current Saturn Astra compact with the next-generation model," said trade magazine. The Mexican plant is a virtually brand new GM manufacturing complex, as it "was dedicated on July 30, 2008," according to an entry in Wikipedia. The plant currently builds the Chevrolet Aveo.
