Eighteen 2009 General Motors Models Achieve 30 MPG or More on the Highway

For 2009, General Motors offers 18 models in the U.S. that get 30 miles per gallon on the highway, more than is expected of any other automaker. They include cars, crossovers and SUVs from GM’s Saturn, Chevrolet, and Pontiac brands. GM is not only poised to lead the industry again this year, but it also leads in subcompact and midsize non-hybrid car segments.

General Motors Employee Pricing Sale Extended to September 30th; 2009 Aura, Outlook, and Sky Added to the Program

General Motors announced today that the company will extend it's popular 100th anniversary employee pricing sale until the end of September. The sale "helped drive additional showroom traffic and our dealers are giving us some very enthusiastic feedback," said Mark LaNeve, vice president of GM North America Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing. "We had our best sales month so far in 2008." As a result, he said GM "added 19 additional 2009 models to the eligible list of vehicles because our 2008 stock on dealer lots is rapidly disappearing." Among the 2009 models added today were the Saturn Aura sedan, Outlook crossover, and Sky roadster.

2009 Saturn Aura XR 4-Cylinder Test Drive Yields an Impressive 39 Highway MPG

Automotive Addict's Harvey Schwartz spent some time behind the wheel of Saturn's new 2009 Aura XR, now available with GM's tried-and-true 2.4L 4-cylinder powerplant and 6-speed automatic transmission. Schwartz thinks the three are a winning "no compromises" combination, as he was able to record an incredible 39 mpg on the highway.

Saturn to Offer Radios with USB Ports for Music Players on Select 2009 Models

The Associated Press says that Saturn will begin offering some of its 2009 models with stereos that include USB ports later in the model year. "The new radios will allow customers to play music from iPods or MP3 players," writes the AP, "while charging many of the devices through a USB port like the ones found on most computers."

Forbes: Saturn Astra, Aura Rank Among the Top 10 Most Fuel-Efficient American Cars

General Motors and Saturn scored well in a recent list of the top 10 most economical American cars. According to the editors at Forbes.com, the 2009 Saturn Aura 2.4L offers an EPA combined fuel economy of 26 mpg, while the Saturn Astra - when equipped with either a manual or automatic transmission - provide a combined EPA-estimated fuel economy of 27 mpg.

General Motors' lineup of award-winning crossovers today adds the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Top Safety Pick 2008 to the growing list of accolades. The significant safety award results from the GMC Acadia meeting the Institute's highest rating for performance in its demanding front, side and rear impacts in addition to providing standard Stabilitrak, GM's electronic stability control system. The IIHS test results also apply to the GMC Acadia's sister vehicles: the Buick Enclave, Saturn Outlook, and soon to be released Chevy Traverse.

Saturn "Rethink MPG" Ad Airs During the Olympics

General Motors has been a big sponsor of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games on NBC. There have been number of different GM ads being shown every night, including the critically-acclaimed 'Beautiful Blue' television spot, but tonight the company aired the 2009 version of Saturn's 'Rethink MPG' commercial just after the Men's 100m dash final.
