Flashback Friday: Saturn Ion·EFX Concept from the 2002 SEMA Show

As the 2013 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show winds down, we're taking a look back at one of the vehicles Saturn showcased at its display back in 2002: the Ion·EFX quad coupe concept. The Ion·EFX was packed with licensed performance and style accessories that were available at Saturn retailers. Saturn Service Parts Operations worked closely with leading aftermarket parts manufacturers who designed the accessories.

Saturn Vue Preview Sketch

Prior to unveiling the 2002 Vue sport-utility at the South Florida International Auto Show in Miami on October 6 2001, Saturn released the preview sketch shown above. Even though the SUV charted new territory for Saturn, the vehicle still embodied many Saturn characteristics that were popular at the time, including: a horizontal front lightbar, domed hood, arched roofline, and side "swoosh."

Used Vehicle Review: 1996-2002 Saturn S-Series

Chris Chase from CanadianDriver.com: The second-generation S-series was offered in sedan, station wagon and coupe body styles (the second-gen coupe arrived a year later than its sedan and wagon siblings). In 1999, Saturn added a third door to the driver's side of the coupe to allow easier access to the rear seat.

The Sacramento Bee reported earlier this month that GM will pay owners of Saturn Ions and Vues equipped with continuously variable transmissions.
